Children form large letter shapes in the air and in sensory trays before tracing on paper.

Materials
- Open space for big arm movements
- A shallow tray of sand, salt, or shaving cream
- Model letter cards
Steps
- Show a model letter and trace it in the air with a big arm motion.
- Have the child sky-write the same letter, naming the strokes ("top to bottom").
- Move to the sensory tray and trace the letter with a finger.
- Finish by tracing the letter on a worksheet.
Variations
- Trace letters on a peer's back and guess the letter.
Differentiation
- Start with straight-line letters (L, T, I) before curves.
- Offer a pencil grip and thicker guide lines on paper.
Accessibility
- Sensory trays give tactile feedback for children developing fine-motor control.
