Materials
- A soft blanket or cloth
- A comfortable lap or floor space
Steps
- Hold the child close and talk in a warm, gentle voice.
- Cover your face with the cloth, then reveal it and say a happy "peekaboo!"
- Watch the child's response and match their delight or pause if they need a break.
- If the child becomes fussy, stop the game and offer soothing — rocking, holding, or quiet.
- Name what you are doing, for example "I am right here with you."
Variations
- Hide a favorite soft toy under the cloth and reveal it together.
- Play during diaper changes or before naps to weave comfort into daily routines.
Differentiation
- For younger infants, slow the pace and exaggerate your warm expressions.
- For older babies, let the child pull the cloth away to take the lead.
Accessibility
- For children with vision differences, add a gentle voice cue or touch when you reappear.
- Follow the child's sensory cues; reduce intensity if they look overwhelmed.
Safety
- Use a lightweight cloth and never leave it covering the child's face.
- Always supervise; keep the child supported and secure on your lap.
